Midwifery (B.Sc.)

Bachelor of Science

Features of the degree program Midwifery

Midwifery is both a science and the name of an innovative Bachelor degree program for male and female midwives. Tailored to the changing requirements of the profession, this study program aims to make use of the unexploited potential and resources of midwives in the care of women and their families.

The program builds on training at one of the cooperating midwifery schools, but also gives midwives who are already certified the chance to enroll for the first study semester as well. Certified midwives with at least 18 months of professional experience also have the option of entering directly into the fourth semester. This requires that they successfully pass an equivalence test.

The objective of the study program is to give students the tools to develop their professional careers in midwifery and to enhance their skills in evidence-based and needs-oriented decision making. On the basis of scientific knowledge and grounded practical competence, graduates can take a central role in the transfer of know-how from theory to practice. The study program is simultaneously oriented towards the acquisition of both discipline-related and interdisciplinary skills.
